Prosecutors treating Utah teen's death as homicide
SALT LAKE CITY – The death of a 16-year-old Utah girl whose body was found last week is being treated as a homicide.
Weber County Attorney Dee Smith says prosecutors aren't ruling out murder as the cause of Alexis Rasmussen's death.
Smith says any possible charges would likely be filed after investigators receive the full autopsy report, which could take weeks.
Rasmussen's body was found Oct. 18 near Interstate 84 east of Ogden after investigators followed an anonymous tip. The body was positively identified Friday.
Rasmussen was last seen Sept. 10, when she was babysitting for a couple who has since been arrested on unrelated drug charges. She reportedly left their house about midnight.
Authorities say they have suspects in the case but have not named them.
