Adan Canto, who appeared on shows like "Narcos" and "Designated Survivor," has died. He was 42.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto," Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment said in a statement. "A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in ‘The Following’ more than a decade ago."

The statement continued, "Most recently, he lit up the screen in ‘The Cleaning Lady’ with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly."

Canto died Tuesday of appendiceal cancer, his rep told the Hollywood Reporter.

The 42-year-old was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and began his career as a musician and actor in the country before his debut on American television with "The Following," starring Kevin Bacon, in 2013, according to his IMDB biography.

He wrote and directed his first short film, "Before Tomorrow," in 2014, and his short film, "The Shot," won several festival awards in 2020.

Canto's first big film role came in 2014 when he played superhero Sunspot in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." He also had roles on shows like "Mixology," "Blood & Oil" and "Second Chance."

On "Narcos" he played former Colombian Minister of Justice Rodrigo Lara Bonilla; he was Vice President Aaron Shore on "Designated Survivor"; and he played mob leader Arman Morales on "The Cleaning Lady."

Canto married wife Stephanie in 2017, and they share two children, Roman Alder, 3, and Eve Josephine, 1, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
