A Fort Carson soldier convicted of murder in the shooting death of a comrade when they were deployed in Jordan has been sentenced to 26 years of confinement and will be dishonorably discharged.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (http://goo.gl/fjU3rq ) that 24-year-old Spc. Jeffery Page was sentenced Thursday for killing 19-year-old Spc. Adrian Perkins of Pine Valley, California, on May 17, 2014. Page of Perrysburg, Ohio, was convicted Wednesday.

Perkins was shot in the head while bringing lunch to Page and another soldier at a guard post.

Prosecutors say Page disliked Perkins because of his lackluster soldier skills, but the defense argued that Page was tired and bored when he aimed what he thought was an unloaded rifle.

Page apologized in court, saying, "I let my unit down. I let my squad mates down."
