Kennedy Center to host Sept. 11 memorial concert
WASHINGTON – The Kennedy Center and the New Republic magazine plan to host an evening of music, remarks and readings to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The event, which is not open to the public, is scheduled for Sept. 8 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. It's titled "9/11: 10 Years Later — An Evening of Remembrance of Reflection." Invited guests will include relatives of 9/11 victims, first responders and members of the military.
Artists scheduled to perform include jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, opera singer Denyce Graves, folk and country singer Emmylou Harris and the National Symphony Orchestra. Scheduled speakers include former Secretaries of State Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Madeleine Albright.
