District of Columbia police say four people found dead following a fire at an upscale Washington home were homicide victims.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier was scheduled to brief reporters about the investigation on Friday afternoon.

The bodies of three adults and one child were found after the fire broke out Thursday afternoon at the home in northwest Washington. The $4.5 million house is blocks away from the Washington National Cathedral and from Vice President Joe Biden's official residence.

The victims have not been identified. Neighbors said a family of five with two parents, a boy and two older girls lived inside the home.

National Cathedral officials said in a statement that they are preparing to host memorial services for the victims.
