Police have arrested a man they say was thwarted from robbing a New York beauty salon by an off-duty officer who was getting her hair done.

Police say the 19-year-old man was arrested early Monday.

They say the gunman entered Sabine's Hallway beauty salon in Brooklyn on Saturday evening and demanded cash and belongings from the customers.

Police say a 50-year-old patron identified herself as a police officer and ordered him to drop his gun, but the man shot at her and missed. Police say she returned fire, hitting him in the right arm and thigh. He fled on foot.

No injuries were reported in the salon.
