Standoff with armed suspect leaves 2 Alaska state troopers injured
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The city attorney in Kotzebue says two Alaska State Troopers were shot Sunday morning, as a standoff
continued with an armed suspect.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that one officer was seriously injured in Kotzebue.
City Attorney Joe Evans says a standoff with the shooter was continuing as of 2:30 p.m.
Evans says initial reports were unconfirmed, but shots may have been fired from a pickup truck at a city police car while both were moving.
Evans says the pickup crashed into a guardrail, and when other Kotzebue police officers and troopers arrived, more shots were fired.
The seriously injured trooper was rushed to a hospital. The second injured trooper drove himself to the hospital.
Evans says a tactical team from Anchorage was flying to Kotzebue to assist.
