Saudis thank US for foiling plot against envoy

WASHINGTON – Saudi Arabia has thanked the U.S. government for preventing what it says was a "despicable" terror plot against its ambassador to the United States.

The Saudi Embassy in Washington said the assassination plot is a "despicable violation of international norms, standards and conventions and is not in accord with the principles of humanity."

The Saudi statement made no mention of the Iranian government, which the U.S. is blaming for planning the attack.
