Prosecutors are increasing the severity of charges against a Tennessee woman accused of helping her son kidnap two young girls after he killed their mother and oldest sister.

The charge against Mary Mayes was raised Monday to especially aggravated kidnapping from a lesser count.

Court documents show authorities now believe that Mayes confined 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain after her son, Adam Mayes, and his wife took them from their Tennessee home to Mississippi.

Alexandria and Kyliyah were rescued by officers in thick woods in Mississippi. Adam Mayes killed himself when they were discovered.

Mayes' bond was increased from $300,000 to $500,000. Her preliminary hearing and that of her daughter-in-law, Teresa Mayes, was rescheduled for June 19 pending psychological evaluations of the two women.
