So you're having trouble sneaking into the U.S. over fences and through tunnels? Apparently, all you have to do is hop a school bus.
A Mexican national reportedly did just that, catching a ride into the country Thursday on a school bus near the Columbus port of entry in southern New Mexico. The 18-year-old man he now faces several immigration violations from the U.S. Border Patrol, including illegal entry and fraudulent use of a document.
A Border Patrol spokesman declined to provide the man's name or other details in the case, citing an ongoing investigation, the El Paso Times reports.
It wasn't immediately clear how the man was able to bypass checkpoints and gain access to the bus. He was caught in Deming, N.M., after police received a tip, the newspaper reported.
Ray Trejo Jr., director of Deming Public Schools transportation, told the newspaper this isn't the first time a local school bus has carried such a notorious passenger, but the most recent case was several years ago. The district gives drivers a list of passengers with their pictures on the first day of school.
