WINTHROP, Mass. -- Police didn't have to look far to find a suspect in the death of a man whose decomposing body was found beneath the porch of a Winthrop home.

Authorities on Thursday arrested a resident of the house, 47-year-old John Lacoy, and charged him with murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

The body was so badly decomposed when it was found Tuesday that the gender, race or manner of death could not immediately be determined. Police were called to the area by neighbors who complained of the odor.

An autopsy has determined that the victim was a man and the manner of death was a stab wound to the chest. The victim's name was not immediately released.

It was not immediately clear if Lacoy had a lawyer.
