Fire Department officials say a blaze at a Houston daycare center has killed one child and injured six others.

Houston Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Barry says the blaze happened Thursday afternoon at a home in west Houston that was being run as a daycare center.

Units arriving at the scene found two children who had been injured outside the home and five more trapped inside. Firefighters rescued those inside and took all seven children to four Houston hospitals. They ranged in age from 18 months to 3 years old.

Barry says one of the children died after being taken to a hospital. No other information was available on the child who died or those injured.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
