SAN DIEGO – Government prosecutors have asked a federal judge to deny bail to a Navy SEAL accused of smuggling assault rifles from Iraq into the U.S. for sale and shipment to Mexico.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Huie told the judge Friday that Nicholas Bickle is a flight risk and dangerous.
Bickle will remain in custody until judge William V. Gallo decides on the matter at a hearing Nov. 9.
Bickle is accused of conspiring with a Colorado man and a Las Vegas associate to smuggle and sell weapons to an undercover federal agent in Nevada and Colorado.
Officials say federal agents seized five pounds of C-4 military explosives from the Colorado home of Richard Paul.
Paul and Andrew Kaufman of Las Vegas, were arrested Wednesday.
