KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A jury has convicted a Georgia man of a federal firearms charge in what authorities said was a plot to take over a Tennessee courthouse to force President Barack Obama out of office.
The jury convicted Darren Wesley Huff of carrying a firearm in interstate commerce with the intent to use it in a civil disorder on Tuesday in Knoxville, but found him not guilty of using a firearm in relation to another felony.
Huff was arrested in 2010 after telling officers he brought his firearms from Dallas, Ga., into Tennessee to support efforts to arrest Monroe County officials who refused to indict Obama.
Huff, who once belonged to the `birther' movement that disputes Obama's U.S. citizenship, told jurors he never said he planned to take over the courthouse.
