The former CNN reporter who shot and killed a would-be robber during a gun fight expects to be released from the hospital next week.

Chuck de Caro was shot multiple times after an armed man forced his way into the Albuquerque motel room where de Caro and his wife, former CNN anchor Lynne Russell, were staying the night of June 30.

The man demanded valuables and fired at De Caro, who shot back.

Police identified that man as Tomorio Walton, a 27-year-old convicted felon. They've also arrested another felon believed to be involved.

De Caro and Russell were on their way to California where de Caro, a consultant, had planned to manage a military training exercise. Instead, he had to do it from his hospital bed via a webcam.
