CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston police say they've surrounded a home where they think the suspect in the wounding of a sheriff's deputy is holed up, and officers have been in a standoff with the man for hours.
Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said Thursday morning that the suspect is thought to be the person previously identified in a sketch as a person of interest in the wounding of Berkeley County sheriff's Lt. Will Rogers. The suspect's name has not been released.
Police arrived at the scene about 4 a.m. Thursday. Negotiators are trying to talk the man out of an apartment near the King Street antiques district.
Rogers was shot at a gas station in nearby Moncks Corner on May 14. Investigators say Rogers was shot as he was talking to a customer in the parking lot. Rogers is listed in critical but stable condition.
