Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a suspect in a Sacramento-area school shooting who allegedly shot and killed a school principal.

The suspect, identified as school janitor John Luebbers, entered Louisiana Schnell School in Placerville and shot 50-year-old Principal Sam LaCara in the torso inside his office around 10:30 a.m. He fled on foot after the incident and was arrested after law enforcement officials surrounded his home in El Dorado, Calif.

The wounded school administrator was transported to Marshall Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. LaCara was pronounced dead later in the afternoon.

After placing the school on lockdown, students were evacuated by bus to El Dorado County Fairgrounds, FOX40 reports.

El Dorado County Sheriff Sgt. Jim Byers said all students were safe and no children were injured in the reported shooting. He added that Luebbers'  motive for the shooting is unknown, although investigators say there appeared to be an argument between LaCara and the suspect.
