A California city is considering a pricey proposal that may make students think twice before playing hooky.
The Concord City Council was to meet Tuesday night to consider a daytime curfew during the school year, with steep fines for students caught outside of class.
Under the proposal, students would first get a warning if they were not in class, followed by fines in increments of $100, $200 and $500. Parents would receive the same fines if they knowingly let their children dodge class, KGO-TV reports.
Truancy sweeps in the city have already reined in 200 students this year.
