Authorities say service on a light rail system south of San Francisco is severely delayed Thursday morning due to an overnight standoff with a man who climbed on top of a train and has refused to come down.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the incident began around 1:20 a.m. as a train was heading back to the rail yard at the end of service.

It was then that the operator spotted a man on the tracks in San Jose and stopped the train.

But the man then climbed atop of the train and tried to grab the electrified wires. Power was shut off quickly.

Brandi Childress, a spokeswoman for the Valley Transportation Authority, which operates the commuter train, said the man continued not to budge during the morning commute. Bus bridges are set up.
