A federal judge will consider whether a former bartender charged with threatening to kill House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) is competent to stand trial.

A competency hearing is scheduled Wednesday for Michael Hoyt in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati. Hoyt was indicted in January and had been at a federal medical center in Massachusetts for mental evaluation and treatment. His attorney confirmed this month that Hoyt was back in the Cincinnati area in federal custody. He declined to comment further.

A separate criminal complaint says Hoyt was fired last fall from a suburban Cincinnati country club where Boehner is a member. Authorities say Hoyt said he began hearing the devil's voice after his firing, telling him that Boehner was "evil."

Court documents indicate Hoyt has a history of mental illness.
