Another high for the Standard & Poor's 500 index and Dow Jones industrial average

U.S. stocks are creeping further into record territory after a quiet day of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index closed at all-time highs Monday.

The Dow added 26 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,298. The S&P 500 rose up six points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,129.

The Nasdaq composite gained 30 points, or 0.6 percent, to 5,078, but did not reach a record.

Several stocks moved on news of acquisitions.

Ann, the parent company of Ann Taylor and Loft, jumped 20 percent after it agreed to be acquired by Ascena Retail Group.

Endo International fell 5 percent after it agreed to buy privately held Par Pharmaceutical for $8 billion.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.23 percent.
