Maria Poppins? A Spanish Nanny Is Picked To Nurture Future King Of England

Chances are the third in line to the British throne, Prince George of Cambridge, will be blabbing a few Spanish words sooner than we know it. Kensington Palace announced Thursday that, for the first time ever, a Spanish nanny has been picked to look after a future king of England.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who according to El País is 43 years old and is from Palencia, Spain, has already started to work full-time. The palace said she will travel with the little prince and his parents to New Zealand and Australia in April.

"We will not be giving further details on Maria or her employment, except to say that the duke and duchess are of course delighted she has chosen to join them," a palace spokesman said. "As an employee of the Royal Household we would ask, please, that Maria's privacy, and that of her family and friends, be respected," he added.

Since Turrion was first seen a few weeks ago wandering the grounds of Kensington Palace, pushing the royal baby carriage and sporting a ponytail, jersey and pants, the British press relentlessly insisted the identity of the woman be revealed. Citing a “friend of the duke and duchess,” published reports are so far only saying Turrion has no children of her own and she "is married to her work."

Turrion Borrallo has come in as a replacement of Prince William's former nanny Jessie Webb, who is 71.

She was trained at the prestigious Norland College, a childcare training college in South West England.

Among the subjects taught to luxury nannies, trained to deal with a world abundant of paparazzi are martial arts and special driving lessons — a very popular tool for celebrities and their families, who often have to flee quickly to avoid camera lenses.

It is not known who else Turrion has worked for, but according to the British press several high society London families have lived with her and recommended her to the royal couple.
