Levi Hummon may be new to the country music scene, but he's already got a huge leg-up on his contemporaries: As the son of Nashville hit-maker Marcus Hummon, he's got songwriting in his DNA.
"He wrote songs like 'Bless the Broken Road' and 'Cowboy Take Me Away,'" Levi tells FNM about his famous father. "So I would grow up and be getting ready for school, and the Dixie Chicks and Rascal Flatts would be in my living room singing these songs and these melodies, and the lyrics would be written right in front of me."
But while Levi admits he didn't plan to follow in his father's footsteps, he soon found out he couldn't escape his roots.
"My sophomore year of college, I got my heart broken," explains Levi. "I picked up a guitar and started writing a song, basically for the girl. And because of that, I started really loving songwriting. I kind of fell in love with it as my own craft. I moved back to Nashville after college in Florida, and really pursued it professionally for the last two and a half years."
Now, fresh off releasing his self-titled EP, Levi is keen to keep writing and recording — especially if it means he can one day collaborate with his favorite artist.
"If I could collaborate with anybody, I think it would be Ed Sheeran, just because I'm a huge fan of his," says Levi. "He can step onto a stage in front of 80,000 people with just a guitar, and just kinda win over everybody. And I feel like that's what I wanna do as an artist as well."
