A man accused of shooting a New Orleans medical student who stopped an apparent kidnapping on Friday has been arrested, police said Monday afternoon.

Police and federal marshals arrested 21-year-old Euric Cain of New Orleans at a house late Monday morning, spokesman Tyler Gamble said in a news release. Cain was wanted on charges of armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping and attempted first-degree murder.

Fourth-year medical student Peter Gold continues to improve but remains in guarded condition Monday, Tulane University said.

Surveillance video released by police showed a man dragging a woman toward an SUV early Friday, and Gold pulling up and trying to help her.

The man demanded money and shot Gold when he said he didn't have any, police said.

The woman was treated for minor injuries.
