Sheriff's officials say a one-time candidate for governor in California has been arrested on suspicion of shooting and wounding his neighbor and killing a horse.

Forty-eight-year-old Tye "Glenn" Champ was arrested Friday, a day after Fresno County Sheriff's officials say he opened fire during a dispute with his neighbor in Prather.

Champ was a Republican candidate for governor during the primary election on June 3. He received 1.8 percent of the vote.

Lt. John Golden says Champ drew a pistol on his 40-year-old neighbor and the neighbor's young son over work being done on a road, and shot the man in the stomach. He is also accused of killing a nearby horse.

It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Prather is about 30 miles northeast of Fresno.
