Ex-police officer pleads not guilty to capital murder in shooting of pregnant girlfriend

A former Texas police officer has pleaded not guilty to capital murder in the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend.

Former Austin police officer VonTrey Clark Wednesday entered his plea Wednesday in the shooting of Samantha Dean. Her body was found behind a vacant building in the Central Texas city of Bastrop in February. Authorities say Dean was seven months pregnant. They say Clark shot her because he didn't want to pay child support.

Austin police fired Clark in mid-July for insubordination and neglect of duty. He was arrested in Indonesia at the end of July and extradited to the United States in September.

He remains in the Bastrop County jail without bond. A co-defendant has been charged with capital murder. Two others face evidence-tampering or retaliation charges.
