ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Federal prosecutors say a 26-year-old bank employee in Anchorage, Alaska, embezzled more than $4 million the old-fashioned way -- by carrying it out of the building.
Gerardo Adan Cazarez Valenzuela is charged with stuffing $4.3 million into computer boxes and rolling it out of a KeyBank vault on a cart.
He was arrested Aug. 1 in Mexico and indicted Wednesday.
An FBI agent says in an affidavit that Valenzuela, also known as Gary Cazarez, had worked as KeyBank's Anchorage cash vault services manager and stole the money July 29.
The FBI says Valenzuela flew to Washington state, bought guns, met his girlfriend and drove to Tijuana, Mexico. He reportedly boarded a bus to the nearby state of Sonora and was carrying $3.8 million when he was stopped at a checkpoint.
