CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say an 80-year-old pilot has survived the crash of his homemade airplane in northern Arizona.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor in Los Angeles says the home built Hornet crashed under unknown circumstances in a field near Camp Verde around 8:15 a.m. Monday.

The pilot was the only person on board and was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center with a broken leg. Yavapai County Sheriff's officials identity the man as Robert Worgull of Camp Verde.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash. FAA officials arrived on the scene Monday afternoon.
