Messi agrees to new Barca contract

Barcelona's Lionel Messi has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2018, it was annoucned Tuesday.

The Spanish giants confirmed the agreement on their official website, stating that the Argentine would pen the deal "in the coming weeks."

Messi is enjoying a remarkable season, even by his lofty standards. The 25- year-old has scored 90 goals in 2012 and is in contention to claim a fourth straight FIFA Ballon d'Or crown.

His current deal expires in June of 2016.
