St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pioneer Football League has its 2013 co-champions. It just hasn't determined whether Butler University or Marist College will claim the league's first automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

The University of San Diego earned the right on the field, but announced on Thursday it had forfeited the chance because it provided improper financial aid to players.

On Saturday, Butler (9-3, 7-1) claimed a share of its fourth PFL title, and second consecutive title, with a 58-27 victory at Morehead State. Meanwhile, Marist (8-3, 7-1) earned a share of its first league title in its fifth season as a league member, defeating Mercer, 33-7.

Butler and Marist now must await the announcement of the PFL's playoff bid. Under recently revised guidelines, the league will use the NCAA's Simple Rating System - provided it is made public in advance of next weekend's playoff selections - in combination with the seven computer ratings utilized by College Sporting News' Gridiron Power Index to determine the automatic qualifier.
