Montpellier, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Montpellier boss Jean Fernandez has resigned after overseeing a run of seven games in Ligue 1 play without victory.

Fernandez replaced Lille-bound Rene Girard in the summer and got Montpellier off to a solid start, but the club, which has not earned a league win since Oct. 6, is flirting with relegation by managing just 15 points from its first 16 matches this season.

Montpellier owner Laurent Nicollin has named coach Pascal Baills as the interim boss while a permanent successor to Fernandez is identified.
