Emanuel Adebayor bagged a brace in the 0, at White Hart Lane.

The former Arsenal striker opened the scoring with a brilliant overhead kick in the 14th minute and added another with a simple finish into an empty net just before halftime.

After Aston Villa failed to clear a corner kick in the 14th minute, Tottenham pumped the ball back into the box where it was met by Adebayor. The 27-year- old redirected the delivery with an acrobatic attempt to find the back of the net and give Spurs the lead.

Adebayor doubled the advantage in the 40th minute after a brilliant cross from Gareth Bale was not properly dealt with by the Aston Villa defense. The Togo international capitalized on the defensive miscue and calmly stuffed home his shot from inside the six-yard box.

Tottenham dominated play throughout the second half, and Adebayor had a plethora of scoring opportunities but failed to claim a hat trick.

Since beginning the new season with two successive defeats, Tottenham has been in fine form, taking 25 points from a possible 27. Its last loss came on Aug. 28, a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City.

With the win, Tottenham jumps ahead of Chelsea in the Premiership table to share fifth place with Newcastle United.

Aston Villa, on 15 points, remains deadlocked with QPR for eighth place.
