Eagles fly to win Super Bowl LIX, unseating two-time defending champion Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts go head-to-head for the second time in Super Bowl LIX tonight at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Coverage for this event has ended.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is a Super Bowl champion, and an MVP.
Hurts was named Super Bowl LIX MVP after completing 17 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns and another score on the ground to lead the Eagles to a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
Hurts orchestrated a 24-0 lead by halftime, and quickly built on that as the Eagles' top ranked defense did everything to stonewall the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes was sacked for a career-high of six times.
Two of the biggest faces in Philadelphia both pointed to their faith after the Eagles earned a dominant win in Super Bowl LIX.
The Birds got their second Lombardi Trophy on Sunday night with a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, stopping their quest for three Super Bowl trophies in a row.
FOX broadcaster Tom Rinaldi met with head coach Nick Sirianni shortly after the clock hit triple zeroes, and Sirianni gave credit to the Lord for the victory.
"God’s blessed us very much," he said. "He gave us all the talents to be able to get here, so first and foremost, thanks to Him. … Thank God, thank you Jesus."
During the trophy presentation, he said to Terry Bradshaw, "All glory to God." Darius Slay also thanked his "Lord and Savior" when speaking with the NFL Network after the game.
In speaking with Erin Andrews, Jalen Hurts, the game's MVP, said, "God is good. He's greater than all the highs and the lows."

If there’s one safe bet anyone can make before Super Bowl LIX, it’s that the players and coaches’ emotions will be running high from the time they get up in the morning through the game.
Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones is not one to hide his tears as "The Star-Spangled Banner" is played before the game. He’s been seen letting his tears stream down his face before the game starts – whether it’s in the playoffs or during the regular season.
He explained to reporters during the week why he cries.
"Quick story. I was watching the movie ‘300.’ One of my favorite movies, you know? Right before they go into battle, you have some like, crying, because they’re so mad. They’re going to war," he said. "In a sense of playing football, I actually go into that mindframe, like, I might not make it home tonight – knowing I’m going to make it home, but knowing I’m going to war. It’s going to get bloody. It’s going to get physical. I might not make it out. I might make it out."So in the midst of the national anthem, I have to put myself in that mindframe."

Former President Barack Obama congratulated the Philadelphia Eagles after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs to become Super Bowl Champions.
“Second time’s the charm,” the former president wrote in a post on X. “Congrats to the @Eagles, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni and an outstanding defense for winning one for Philly. You earned it!”
The last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl was in 2018 when they defeated the New England Patriots, 41-33.
A man appeared to sneak into Kendrick Lamar's performance at halftime of Super Bowl LIX.
Lamar performed several of his hits, including "Not Like Us," "Be Humble" and "DNA," and he was surrounded by numerous performers. However, the person was able to get onto the field and hold up a Palestinian flag during the show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
During Lamar's performance of his new hit "tv off," the man held the flag on top of a prop car, and then ran onto the field with the flag. The person wandered back and forth on the field before members of security arrived. The man was dragged off of the field.
The protest took place with Donald Trump in attendance at the game, marking the first time a sitting president has ever attended the Super Bowl.

It was over before it ever began, and for the Kansas City Chiefs – they never really got started.
The Philadelphia Eagles, with the top ranked defense in the NFL this past season, put on a show to defeat the two-time deafening Super Bowl champions 40-22.
The Eagles Super Bowl LIX victory marks the franchise first win since their 2018 vicotry over the New England Patriots.
The Eagles scored four unanswered touchdowns before Patrick Mahomes connected with receiver Xavier Worthy in the third quarter. Worthy scored two touchdowns including a meaningless score with two minutes remaining.
Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who joined the Chiefs in a trade with the Tennessee Titans in October, scored a late touchdown for Kansas City. A successful two-point conversion narrowed the Eagles lead to 40-14.
Just over two mins remains in Super Bowl LIX.
The Philadelphia Eagles scored four straight touchdowns before Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were able to respond late in the third quarter.
A scrambling Mahomes connected with receiver Xavier Worthy, who dove in the end zone to score the Chiefs first touchdown of the game. Kansas City attempted a two-point conversion but was stuffed by the Eagles dominant defense.
Prior to the eagles score, Jalen Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith with a 46-yard pass.
The Eagles scored another field goal later in the fourth to extend the lead 37-6.
Kendrick Lamar headlined the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday night after the Eagles built a 24-0 lead in the first half of the big game.
The 22-time Grammy award winning artist performed some of his biggest hits, including diss track "Not Like Us," directed at Drake, who he name-dropped during the performance.
He performed five tracks from his latest album “GNX,” which earned the rapper five Grammys during last week’s award ceremony. R&B singer-songwriter SZA also joined Lamar on stage for two songs.
A patriotic Samuel L. Jackson made a special appearance, introducing the rapper and interjecting during certain points of Lamar's performance.
Taylor Swift isn't on her "Eras Tour" anymore.
The pop star showed up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday, and the fans there gave her a loud chorus of boos when she was shown on the Caesars Superdome jumbotron.
Swift didn't look as if she was too familiar or comfortable being booed by a large crowd as her expression turned to visibly nervous confusion once the chorus began.
Swift is attending her second Super Bowl after showing up at last year's big game in Las Vegas to cheer on her boyfriend and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Many NFL fans have come to be critical of the constant displaying of Swift during broadcasts and on jumbotrons dating back to last season.
Her booing by the crowd also coincided with a heavy barrage of boos that welcomed the Chiefs as a team when they ran through the tunnel prior to the game.

The defending two-time champion Kansas City Chiefs are far from making NFL history after being shutout in the first half of Super Bowl LIX.
Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson, AJ Brown, and cornerback Cooper DeJean have all scored.
Sunday's halftime score is just one point shy of being the largest deficit in a Super Bowl by halftime in NFL history.
The Kansas City Chiefs are facing an uphill battle after the Eagles scored their third touchdown of the half.
Mahomes was picked off by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun on first and 10 on the Chiefs’ own 14. It set up Jalen Hurts to connect with AJ Brown who ran it to give Philadelphia a 24-0 lead.
Kansas City has struggled on both sides of the ball in Super Bowl LIX. Mahomes has been sacked three times and picked off twice.
The Eagles are one step closer to shutting out the Kansas City Chiefs for the first half of Super Bowl six.
Philadelphia cornerback Cooper DeJean intercepted Patrick Mahomes on third and 16 score a touchdown halfway through the second quarter. The pick-six extended the Eagles lead to 17-0 with a little over three minutes remaining in the half.
President Donald Trump has made his Super Bowl debut, and one of his first priorities was to honor those who were killed in the Jan. 1 New Orleans terror attack.
Upon arriving at the Superdome on Sunday, Trump met with the families of multiple victims of the attack as well as members of the New Orleans Police Department and emergency personnel.
At least 14 people were killed in the Jan. 1 attack and 57 more were injured.
The 14 victims who were killed were 27-year-old former Princeton football player Tiger Bech, 26-year-old Drew Dauphin, 18-year-old Nikyra Dedeaux, 28-year-old single mother Nicole Perez, 37-year-old Reggie Hunter, 21-year-old Hubert Gauthreaux, Alabama student Kareem Bilal Badawi, 25-year-old Matthew Tenedorio, 25-year-old Billy DiMaio, 63-year-old Terrence Kennedy, 42-year-old Brandon Taylor, 40-year-old Elliot Wilkinson and 31-year-old Edward Pettifer.

The Philadelphia Eagles scored the first touchdown of Super Bowl LIX in true Philly fashion – the “tush push.”
The play was set up after Eagles wideout Jahan Dotson connected with Jalen Hurts on a 25-yard pass, but he went down just shy of the goal line. Then on first and goal, Hurts crossed into the end zone for the first score of the game.
The Eagles lead the Chiefs 7-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter.
In last year's Super Bowl battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs came out with another victory as the team took home Super Bowl LVIII.

The pop star wore her blonde hair down for the occasion as she was spotted in a suite ahead of the game.Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are taking on the Philadelphia Eagles for the Lombardi Trophy.
Swift and Kelce have spent the last few days gallivanting around New Orleans and even had a double date night with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.

Levi Stadium, the San Francisco 49ers stadium, is hosting next year’s Super Bowl. Levi Stadium is in Santa Clara, California.
In 2027, the Super Bowl will return to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The first time that SoFi Stadium hosted the Super Bowl, the Rams won in their own home stadium, when they took down the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
In 2028, the Super Bowl will be held in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta hosted Super Bowl LIII, where Tom Brady and the Patriots beat the Rams 13-3.
Look away, New York Giants fans.
Michael Strahan, the NFL’s single-season sacks leader and Giants legend, was spotted swinging a Philadelphia Eagles flag on the Mississippi River during an interview with Saquon Barkley ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Of course, the Giants have been ripped by football fans throughout the season, as Barkley’s weekly performances got better and better to the point where he was the league’s leading rusher when the regular season came to an end – Barkley entered the 2,000-yard club.
But while many Giants were feeling conflicted about who to root for throughout the week, Strahan said he would be rooting for Barkley, who was a cornerstone piece for the Giants for six seasons before moving on to the Eagles in free agency.
However, Giants fans don’t want to hear Strahan saying, “We’re going to fly, Eagles, fly for Saquon because I respect and love this man so much. See, we don’t have a flag in New York.”
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce reacted on Wednesday to the possibility of President Donald Trump going to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Trump is expected to attend the game and become the first sitting president to do so, a source told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. A White House official also told The Associated Press that the 47th president was expected at Caesars Superdome.
Kelce was asked about it at a pre-Super Bowl press conference.
"I think it’s a great honor no matter who the president is," he said, via the New York Post. "I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool."
This is an excerpt from an article written by Fox News' Ryan Gaydos.
President Donald Trump made history on Sunday when he arrived at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX an hour before kickoff. He becomes the first sitting president to ever attend the big game.
The U.S. Secret Service said in a statement Tuesday that they have taken extra steps to ensure the president's safety.
“Extensive planning and coordination have been in place to ensure the safety of all attendees, players, and staff," Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in the statement. "Security measures have been further enhanced this year, given that this will be the first time a sitting President of the United States will attend the event."
Trump is set to do a meet and greet with the honorary coin toss participants, family members of victims in the New Orleans New Year’s terror attack and members of the New Orleans Police Department and other emergency personnel, a White House official said.
Also hoping to make history is the Kansas City Chiefs. A win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night will make the Chiefs the first ever team to ever win three straight championships.
The U.S. Secret Service is expected to play a recruiting video for NFL fans inside the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans just before Super Bowl LIX kicks off on Sunday night, Fox News Digital has learned.
The minute-long ad, produced by award-winning American director Michael Bay, will only be played by the NFL inside the stadium, which has a capacity of 83,000.
The video obtained by Fox News Digital began with compelling scenes of American history.
"America was founded on an idea of freedom. America has always stepped forward in time of need throughout our short but powerful history," the narrator says. "We’ve been there for all of it."
Scenes of American service men and women flash alongside scenes of infamous assassination attempts, including the 1981 attack on former President Ronald Reagan and President Donald Trump, who survived a July 13 assassination attempt after being shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Adam Sandler is in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, but the loyal New York sports fan has one thing on his mind.
“My name is Adam Sandler. I’m here at the Super Bowl – they’ve been very nice to me so far,” he said in a video shared on X by the NFL. “It’s gonna be a good one, I plan on enjoying it like you, the people at home, or anyone watching this. And next year, Jets? Yeah!”
The Jets made headlines on Super Bowl Sunday after it was reported that the organization had informed four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers that they have decided to move on after two seasons.
It’s unclear how that split will look like – whether it’s an outright cut or they trade him.
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce had to juke around a pretty important question regarding his love life during Super Bowl LIX’s opening night on Monday in New Orleans.
Kelce will have a whole host of fans in his corner at the Caesars Superdome come the weekend, including his girlfriend Taylor Swift. The pop star had been following him and the Chiefs throughout the playoffs and will likely be in the Big Easy as her "Eras Tour" has come to a close.
The tight end was asked whether he planned on giving anyone a special ring on Sunday.
"A Super Bowl ring?" he asked coyly. "Next question."
It is pretty clear the two have been hot and heavy for the last year and a half. Swift has been at a handful of Chiefs games since they started dating in 2023, and in turn, Kelce had been at some "Eras Tour" events during the summer – even appearing in one of her skits.

Along with the victims of the January 1 attack, Trump is also expected to meet with the game's honorary coin toss participants, members of the New Orleans Police Department, and emergency personnel.
Earlier in the day, Trump released a statement on the Super Bowl where he acknowledged the victims that were tragically killed and the several more that were injured.
“While thousands of fans from across our Nation gather in New Orleans to cheer on their favorite team, we remember that 14 families will be missing a loved one who was tragically murdered during a senseless terrorist attack while celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street. Our thoughts are also with the 35 individuals injured during the attack whose lives were changed forever that fateful night, and our prayers will remain with them for continued strength, comfort, and healing.
Super Bowl Sunday has the potential to be extra special for Saquon Barkley.
For one, he'll be playing for the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. It will also be his 28th birthday.
However, aside from the coveted trophy, he has a chance to win another grand prize next week: one of Jake Paul's Ferraris.
Paul gave his word in a social media post last week.
"This is a message for Saquon Barkley and Saquon Barkley only. If you win the Super Bowl MVP, I think you can do it brother … I will give you one of my Ferraris," Paul said in the video.

Directions for fried shrimp recipe:
Pat the fresh shrimp dry and set it aside. If necessary, peel the shell from the shrimp. Once dried, cover the shrimp with flour.
In a separate small bowl, whisk 2–3 eggs and coat the floured shrimp in egg wash. Then, cover the shrimp in breadcrumbs. If you prefer extra thick breading, dip them again into the egg wash and the breadcrumbs.
On the stove, heat canola oil in a pot to 350 degrees. Use a thermometer to check the temperature, as you don't want to under- or overheat the oil. Once the temperature has reached 350 degrees, toss in one shrimp and fry until lightly golden.
Determine how long it takes to fry the one shrimp to a golden brown. Then, add 5–8 shrimp at a time and fry until golden.
Remove and set on a paper towel to soak up the oil.
Include sauces for dipping on the side, like honey mustard, BBQ sauce and even cocktail sauce.
Ingredients for fried shrimp recipe:
Peeled, deveined shrimp
Bread crumbs
Flour
Egg
Peanut or canola oil

President Donald Trump released a message before Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
“I look forward to joining the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX to cheer on two great teams—the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles—as they battle for the National Football League’s Vince Lombardi Trophy,” he said in a statement. “The coaches, players, and team staff on the field tonight represent the best of the best in professional football, but they also embody the best of the American Dream. Their hard work, dedication, and tenacity is admirable, and their individual journeys are as inspiring as the drive and determination that has led them to this extraordinary moment. They also represent the hopes and dreams of our Nation’s young athletes as we restore safety and fairness in sports and equal opportunities among their teams.
"Football is America’s most popular sport—for good reason—it fosters a sense of national unity, bringing families, friends, and fans together and strengthening communities. This annual tradition transcends our differences and personifies our shared patriotic values of family, faith, and freedom heroically defended by our military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders. We value their devotion to protecting our great Nation and salute their selfless service.”
Trump mentioned the lives that were lost in the terror attack that took place in the city on New Year’s Day.
“This year, the Super Bowl returns to the Caesars Superdome for a record setting (11th) time. While thousands of fans from across our Nation gather in New Orleans to cheer on their favorite team, we remember that 14 families will be missing a loved one who was tragically murdered during a senseless terrorist attack while celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street. Our thoughts are also with the 35 individuals injured during the attack whose lives were changed forever that fateful night, and our prayers will remain with them for continued strength, comfort, and healing.
“Tonight, we look forward to a terrific game and the crowning of the Super Bowl Champions. Melania joins me in sending our best wishes for a great Super Bowl Sunday. May the best team win, and may God bless you, your family, and the United States of America.”

Kansas City Chiefs star Justin Reid is extra motivated to play in Super Bowl LIX.
Reid could be a part of history if the Chiefs win their third straight, as no other NFL team has won three consecutive Super Bowl titles since the NFL and AFL began playing each other in the 1960s. But this year’s game means a little more.
The star safety was born in Prairieville, Louisiana, about 65 miles northwest of New Orleans where the game will be held. He starred at Dutchtown High School before he committed to Stanford and played three years with the Cardinal.
He told the Kansas City Star he bought as many as 30 Super Bowl tickets for his friends and family to watch him play against the Philadelphia Eagles. The average Super Bowl ticket price has been around $7,900, according to StubHub.
"We’re excited to play, and we’re chasing glory," he told the newspaper. "But we’ve got to win just for me to break even."

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have a tough act to follow in Super LIX.
Last year's Super Bowl between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers was the most watched telecast in history, let alone the most watched Super Bowl per the NFL.
Super Bowl LVIII averaged 123.4 million viewers across all platforms, which was 7% higher than the previous record which was the prior Super Bowl with 115.1 million viewers.
With the Chiefs gunning for their third consecutive Super Bowl win, and with the Eagles having both an ardent fan base and haters, the Super Bowl should draw well.
In addition to the game, the halftime show is featuring Kendrick Lamar. Taylor Swift is also certain to be in the crowd as well supporting Travis Kelce and the Chiefs.
Chiefs will take on the Eagles in the Super Bowl at 6:30 p.m. ET Feb. 9 on FOX.
FOX’s coverage of the Super Bowl begins at 1 p.m. ET. Coverage can also be streamed live on Tubi for the first time.
Why does the NFL use Roman numerals for the Super Bowl?
Why is it Super Bowl LIX and not just Super Bowl 59?
Lamar Hunt, the late Chiefs owner who also came up with the name Super Bowl, came up with the idea.
The use of Roman numerals were used so that people wouldn’t get confused because the winner of the Super Bowl is recognized for the season the year started, not when the year ended.
So for example, the Kansas City Chiefs or Philadelphia Eagles will be considered the 2024 Super Bowl champions despite the big game taking place in 2025.
Roman Numerals were first used in Super Bowl 5, and the NFL added the Roman Numerals to the previous four Super Bowls.
The term Super Bowl only became official in Super Bowl 3, so the NFL also added the Super Bowl name to the first couple of editions.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl for a chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
But they are also playing for a paycheck, as the winners and losers both receive bonuses, but the bonuses differ between the losing and winning team.
The players being paid bonuses in the Super Bowl stems from the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association.
The winning team’s players of Super Bowl LIX will receive a $171,000 bonus, while the losing team’s players will receive $96,000.
However, not every player will receive the same amount.
Players will receive the bonus if they have played the last three games during the regular season or playoffs and are on the team’s active or inactive’s list when the Super Bowl is played.
They will also receive the full bonus if they played at least eight games across the regular season and playoffs regardless of being on the active/inactive’s list.
Players can also receive a full bonus if they are a veteran player who was injured during the regular season but are still under contract when the Super Bowl is played.
Players will receive 50% of the bonus if they played fewer than the three previous games during the regular season/playoffs, are not on the active/inactive list but played between three and seven games between the regular season and playoffs.
First year players who were injured in the regular season but are under contract for the Super Bowl will also receive 50% of the bonus.
So regardless of the outcome, players will be paid for their team’s making it to the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIX is being hosted at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will fly in from their respective cities to watch their teams play in the big game.
How many of them will be in attendance for the Super Bowl?
A specific number has yet to be released, but there are a couple of statistics that offer a rough estimate of how many fans will be in attendance tonight.
When New Orleans last hosted the Super Bowl in 2013 between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, 71,024 fans were in attendance.
Caesars Superdome is the home of the New Orleans Saints, and they averaged 70,012 fans in their home games this season.
Taking those numbers into account, it is safe to assume a minimum of 70,000 fans will be in attendance with the final number of fans likely to come around the 71,024 fans from the last Super Bowl they hosted.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will be battling it out for the Lombardi Trophy, and the winner will receive Super Bowl rings.
But who all gets a Super Bowl ring?
Both the winners and losers of the big game actually get a ring, but only the winners will receive a Super Bowl ring.
The losers will get a conference championship ring for winning their respective.
Every single player on the winning 53-man roster receives a ring featuring their name and jersey number.
Practice squad players will also receive a ring, albeit a less-valuable version than the ring those on the 53-man roster get.
Coaches, executives, and team employees can all get rings at the winning team’s discretion.
The NFL puts $5,000 toward each ring for the first 150 of them, and the team finances the rest of them.
Depending on the size of the organization and the owner’s willingness to get them for his employees, teams can give anywhere from 300 - 900 Super Bowl rings.
There are 12 teams who have never won a Super Bowl, and four teams who never appeared in a Super Bowl.
Here are the four teams that never appeared in a Super Bowl:
Cleveland Browns
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars
There are three teams that have appeared just once in the Super Bowl (and the year they appeared)
Arizona Cardinals (2009)
Los Angeles Chargers (1995)
Tennessee Titans (1999)
Two teams have appeared in the Super Bowl, and lost both times.
Atlanta Falcons (1999, 2017)
Carolina Panthers (2004, 2016)
The Cincinnati Bengals are the only team to go to the Super Bowl three times (1982, 1989, 2022) and lose all three times.
There are two teams that have gone to the Super Bowl four times and lost all four times.
The Bills losses especially hurt because they made the Super Bowl four years in a row, from 1990-1993, and lost all four.
The Vikings are the other team to appear in the Super Bowl four times and lose all of them.
Their Super Bowl appearances, albeit not all consecutive, were still bunched together. They went to the big game in 1970, 1974, 1975, and 1977.
Super Bowl LIX is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Caesars Superdome.
But where are the upcoming Super Bowl’s being held?
Levi’s Stadium, the San Francisco 49ers stadium, is hosting next year’s Super Bowl. Levi Stadium is in Santa Clara, California.
It will be the third time that San Francisco has hosted the Super Bowl.
In 2027, the Super Bowl will return to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The first time that SoFi Stadium hosted the Super Bowl, the Rams won in their own home stadium, when they took down the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
The greater Los Angeles area has hosted the Super Bowl eight times.
In 2028, the Super Bowl will be held in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, it will be the fourth time Atlanta has hosted a Super Bowl.
Atlanta last hosted Super Bowl LIII in 2019, where Tom Brady and the Patriots beat the Rams 13-3.
One way NFL fans have fun during the Super Bowl is by playing Super Bowl Squares.
But how do they work?
Super Bowl Squares are made on a 10x10 grid, with each square representing the last digit of each team’s score.
The grid is randomly assigned numbers 0-9 throughout, and then one team is on the rows and the other on the columns.
For this year’s Super Bowl, you could put the Chiefs on the row, and the Eagles on the column, or vice versa.
At the end of each quarter and eventually when the game goes final, the square that matches the last digit of both team’s scores wins.
For example, if the Chiefs are winning 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, the person with the square of Chiefs zero, and Eagles seven would win.
Some people might just play Super Bowl squares for fun, but normally there is a cost per square, and normally the squares you end up receiving are randomly generated.
Generally, when playing Super Bowl squares the prize money goes up per quarter.
For example, if your total pot is $120 dollars, the first quarter winner could be given $10, the second quarter winner $20, third quarter winner $30, and the person who gets the final score wins $60.
With Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles happening tonight, let’s look at some of the single-game Super Bowl records.
Tom Brady, announcing the big game tonight alongside Kevin Burkhardt, holds a few of the single game records.
Brady holds the single-game record for most passing yards (505 in Super Bowl LII) and the most passing completions and attempts in a game (43-62 in Super Bowl LI).
New York Giants legend, Phil Simms, holds the highest completion percentage (minimum 20 passing attempts) in a single game in Super Bowl history, when he completed 88% of his passes in Super Bowl XXI.
No one has thrown more touchdowns in a single game than 49ers quarterback Steve Young, when he threw six touchdown passes in the 49ers 49-26 rout over the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX.
Rich Gannon holds one of the single-game Super Bowl records that you don’t want to hold.
Gannon is the record-holder for most interceptions thrown in a game with five in the Oakland Raiders 48-21 loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Timmy Smith holds the record for most rushing yards in a Super Bowl game, with 204 yards for the then Washington Redskins in their 42-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tied a single-game record in his first Super Bowl appearance a couple of years ago.
Hurts tied Terrell Davis for most rushing touchdowns in a game, with three rushing touchdowns in the Eagles 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
Davis’ three rushing touchdowns helped propel the Broncos to their 31-24 Super Bowl victory over the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXII.
49ers legend Jerry Rice holds a few different single-game Super Bowl records.
Rice holds the record for most receiving yards (215 in Super Bowl XXIII), most scrimmage yards (220 in Super Bowl XXIII), and receiving touchdowns (3 in both Super Bowl XXIX and Super Bowl XXIV).
While logic would lend you to think a tight end or wide receiver would hold the record for most receptions in a single-game in Super Bowl history, it is a running back who holds the record.
Patriots running back James White had 14 receptions in the team’s legendary comeback, beating the Falcons 34-28 in overtime of Super Bowl LI after being down 28-3 at one point.
Defensively, L.C. Greenword recorded four sacks in the Steelers 21-17 win over the Cowboys in Super Bowl X.
Rod Martin holds the record for most interceptions in a Super Bowl, with three interceptions in the Oakland Raiders 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XV.
Dan Morgan holds the record for most combined tackles, with 18 in the Carolina Panthers 32-29 defeat to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Super Bowl LIX will be played in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Caesars Superdome.
How did the NFL come to select New Orleans as the Super Bowl’s host city, and what is the process for selecting cities?
The cities are not selected on a whim, but rather a thorough process that involves a lot of people and weighs a lot of factors.
Matt Shapiro, the vice president of events strategy for the NFL, says that the process begins with the league gauging host interest from all the teams, per Axios.
The NFL will then look at previously announced cities and future plans and then evaluate “what might make sense for each year,” Shapiro said.
Then the NFL will work their Fan Engagement and Major Events Advisory Committee. That committee is a group of 11 different teams that are represented by owners and presidents to review potential cities.
Once the committee is done meeting, the NFL will put forth recommendations before all the owners for a vote.
Then the location is announced “once there has been an affirmative vote,” Shapiro said.
Key factors in the decision making process are weather, stadium quality, and nearby venues that can handle hosting such a big event.
It’s why it is common that most Super Bowls are held in warmer cities, or domes. The last time the Super Bowl was hosted in cold weather was when it was held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Seattle Seahawks demolished the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super XLVIII to win that game in New Jersey.
Likely due to the cold weather, the state of Ohio has never hosted a Super Bowl.
The first ever Super Bowl was held in Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.
The Green Bay Packers, led by the legendary head coach Vince Lombardi, beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 on Jan. 15, 1967.
Packers quarterback Bart Starr was named Super Bowl MVP, completing 16-23 passes for 250 yards, while throwing two touchdowns against one interception.
Packers running backs Jim Taylor and Elijiah Pitts both had strong days on the ground. Taylor had 17 carries for 56 yards and one touchdown, while Pitts had 11 carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Max McGee was Starr’s top target, catching seven passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns in the win.
The Chiefs were able to cut the lead to 14-10 before halftime after a Mike Mercer field goal, but the Packers scored 21 unanswered points to close out the game.
Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson completed 16-27 passes while throwing for 211 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the loss.
Wide receiver Curtis McClinton scored the lone touchdown for the Chiefs on one his two catches on the day.
The Packers would go on to win the Super Bowl the next season when they defeated the Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II.
The Chiefs made it back to the Super Bowl just a few years later, defeating the Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV.
Every single Super Bowl in NFL history has been played on a Sunday. Why?
If it were on a Saturday, fans could have extravagant Super Bowl parties and not have to worry about work the next day.
The kids could stay up and watch the whole game instead of having to get ready to go to school on Monday morning.
The main reason the Super Bowl isn’t played on Saturday is television ratings. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explained why during an interview in 2018.
“That (idea) has been around for a long time, people have talked about that. The reason we haven't done it in the past is simply just from an audience standpoint,” Goodell said during an interview on “The Kyle Brandt Football Experience.”
“The audiences on Sunday night are so much larger. Fans want to have the best opportunity to be able to see the game and we want to give that to them, so Sunday night is a better night."
Goodell spoke in April on “The Pat McAfee Show” about his desire to extend the NFL regular season to 18 games, instead of the 17 game season right now.
Should the NFL extend the regular season a week, Goodell said the NFL would push the Super Bowl to Presidents Day weekend.
If that were the case, it would give fans the ability to enjoy the Super Bowl fully, without worrying about work or school the next day.
Simply put, the Super Bowl is on Sunday because of the audience it commands in the Sunday night time slot.
Tickets for Super Bowl LIX are a hot commodity.
Fans are flocking into New Orleans to see if the Philadelphia Eagles can prevent the Kansas City Chiefs from winning their third consecutive, and some are paying a hefty price.
The average ticket price to get into the Caesars Superdome is $9,938.89, with the cheapest ticket price currently being $5,619.00 into the secondary market.
The most expensive ticket is a whopping $56,435.00. The most expensive tickets are located in the lower level near the sidelines at midfield and the VIP sections or the club level/VIP seats in the 200-level also around midfield.
The Super Bowl is the largest sporting event in the United States every year.
But how did it get its name?
Then-NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle first idea was to call the game “The AFL-NFL World Championship Game,” but it never stuck due to its length.
As the owners were continuing to brainstorm, Lamar Hunt Jr, son of former Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, said that the idea for the Super Bowl actually stemmed from a toy.
Hunt Jr. had a toy called the “Super Ball,” and Hunt drew inspiration from it.
“My dad was in an owner’s meeting. They were trying to figure out what to call the last game, the championship game. I don’t know if he had the ball with him as some reports suggest. My dad said, ‘Well, we need to come up with a name, something like the ‘Super Bowl.' And then he said, ‘Actually, that’s not a very good name. We can come up with something better.’ But ‘Super Bowl’ stuck in the media and word of mouth,” Hunt Jr. said via Time.
And that’s how the Super Bowl, America’s largest sporting event, got its name.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Chiefs are playing in the Super Bowl with hopes of doing one thing.
Lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
But who makes the trophy and what is it made of?
Tiffany and Co. has been making the trophy since the Super Bowl’s inception in 1967, when it was first awarded to the Green Bay Packers.
The trophy is made out of sterling silver and weighs seven pounds and is 22 inches tall.
Unlike the Stanley Cup in the NHL, which is passed from team to team every season, each winning team gets to keep its own trophy.
So every year in Tiffany’s workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island, a new trophy is made.
The Chiefs currently have four Lombardi trophies and are looking to add a fifth while the Eagles have one Lombardi trophy, and are looking to double their total with a win tonight.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are playing in Super Bowl LIX.
The Chiefs have won four Super Bowls, including three of the last five Super Bowls.

Fox News’ Ryan Gaydos contributed to this report.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts turned heads on Monday as he and the rest of the team arrived in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hurts wore a black sweatshirt with a photo of the cleats that got him in trouble with the NFL earlier this season. The picture had black bars over the controversial footwear.
The star player was fined $5,628 by the NFL for mismatched cleats that were not "constitutional team colors," The Associated Press reported in December. Hurts wore Jordan Brand dark green and Kelly green cleats for the Eagles’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Jordan Brand announced at the time it would pay the fine.

Super Bowl LIX will put a cap on an incredible 2024 season that featured a ton of different storylines, beginning with the offseason acquisition that set fans up for the championship.
Saquon Barkley left the New York Giants and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles to bolster the offense and give them the firepower they needed to propel them to an NFC Championship victory over the Washington Commanders. The Eagles are set for a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs powered through an offseason of tumult, and it started right after the Super Bowl during their parade. A shooting at the parade left one dead and shook up players and fans alike. Separately, the organization saw a handful of players have run-ins with law enforcement, including wide receiver Rashee Rice.
With the pressure back on Kansas City, the Chiefs still managed to find themselves going for NFL history.
