For weeks now, “Glee” actress Naya Rivera has been a favorite conversation topic, following rampant rumors that there was tension on the set and that she had been fired.
While reps for the 27-year-old actress and FOX network have denied such rumors, the show’s creator Ryan Murphy had kept mostly quiet — until now.
Murphy spoke with Extra! at the New York premiere of his upcoming HBO film “The Normal Heart” and opened up about the stories that filled the headlines recently.
“I don’t think there is a story between Naya and Lea,” he said. “I always marvel at the things that become headline news, that most of the time are completely fabricated. Naya’s coming back next year, Lea’s coming back next year. Anybody ever in that cast has an open invitation to come back and finish the character they so beautifully started.”
Rivera’s co-star Chris Colfer also recently spoke out about the rumors. While he did not want to go into any details or speculation, he called the entire situation “really sad.”
“I’ve seen some of my closest friends on ‘Glee’ go through where these horrible things are written about them (...) None of it is true, but some reporter wants to get a hit, they say so-and-so is a raging b**h,” Colfer told People.
As for Rivera, she posted an inspiring tweet after the supposed altercation and rumored firing.
“To the best fans in the world, thank you for all the (heart)! Don’t ever let the he say she say get you down,” she tweeted. “Whether it’s in school, home, or all over the Internet lol. Hold your head high, stay true to yourself, and know you are loved! Xo”
The season finale of “Glee” aired Tuesday night on FOX. As previously reported, Rivera did not appear in the episode, which set up a future time jump for the cast.
The network announced this week that the show’s sixth and final season will air midseason in 2015.
