NBC announces Arnold Schwarzenegger as Donald Trump's replacement as host for 'Celebrity Apprentice'
When asked in the Emmy press room about working with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the next season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, Mark Burnett shouted gleefully back at the reporter, “You’re terminated!”
It was Burnett’s way of auditioning a signature catch phrase for Schwarzenegger before the press. The series creator than admitted, “We’re still speculating what his line will be.”
“It’s such a great franchise on NBC and clearly a change had to be made,” said Burnett eluding to former host Donald Trump’s presidential bid, and the meshugaas that followed when the Peacock network divorced itself from him over his controversial remarks about immigrants and the Mexican border.
“Arnold is a lot of fun, he loves the show and he’s really engaged in a huge way,” said Burnett. Earlier a reporter remarked that The Voice,which Burnett and his producing team won the best reality competition Emmy for, could be the only trophy for NBC tonight. Burnett left the platform saying that Celebrity Apprentice“could be another NBC show” to win next year.“Let’s make sure we’re the winner tomorrow night,” said Burnett about The Voice and its ratings.
Patting the back of the singing competition show, Burnett exclaimed that it “reinvented” the genre and “added dignity, instead of tearing down for fun. The Voice is kinder and personally invites these people to work with artists and superstar coaches.”
For the miniseries, reality and movie producer, none of his shows are lower than other: “It doesn’t matter if I’m making a $150M movie like Ben-Huror one or two hours of television. We don’t treat anything differently. The creme rises to the top. The American viewing public is super smart, and it’s harder and harder to engage when you’re running something live. This is young Americans’ favorite show.”
