The wife of a San Diego Navy surgeon has pleaded not guilty in the stabbing death of her husband.

Prosecutor Fiona Khalil (kuh-LIL') tells City News Service that 42-year-old Jennifer Trayers entered the plea Wednesday to a murder count from her bed at Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she was recovering from what Khalil called self-inflicted cuts. It wasn't immediately known if Jennifer Trayers had an attorney.

On Monday after Dr. Frederick Trayers failed to appear at work for several days, police broke into his condominium and found the doctor dead and his wife lying next to him injured.

Khalil says the doctor had been stabbed in the chest, back and neck.

Prosecutors say Jennifer Trayers believed her husband was having an affair based on an e-mail she sent to another woman.

She was ordered held on $2 million bail.
