A Connecticut house fire has killed a 7-year-old boy trapped in his bedroom.

Bridgeport Assistant Chief Dominick Carfi says firefighters arrived at the three-story house early Monday morning. The boy's mother and grandmother escaped and told them he was trapped on the top floor. Carfi says eight other people escaped.

The Connecticut Post reports (http://bit.ly/nObakr) the boy's family identifies him as Kyle Jean-Baptiste. A family member says a man in the house tried to reach Kyle but flames were too intense.

Carfi says the damage was heaviest in the boy's room, where his body was found. Firefighters initially weren't able to search for him because of the flames.

Kyle's step-grandfather Joseph Albert calls him "a good boy" who made people happy.

Carfi says firefighters also feel "a heartfelt loss."
