Tourists in New York City Spot Body Floating in River Ahead of Tour

Tourists booking a helicopter ride at a New York City heliport Tuesday were shocked to see a body floating in the East River, witnesses and police sources said.

A fully-clothed male was spotted in the water near the South Street seaport at 2:20pm ET, sources said.

"It looked like a bag of trash," said Angel Gonzalez, 29, an employee with Manhattan Helicopters who was told about the grisly discovery by customers at the Wall Street heliport.
The man's body was completely submerged, being kept afloat only by his jacket, Gonzalez added.

The cops pulled the body out of the water and found no signs of visible trauma. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death, sources added.

His identity was being withheld pending family notification.
