A Southern California man who beat to death his miniature poodle has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Prosecutors say Jason Vaca of Baldwin Park was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to a felony count of animal cruelty. He also must attend anger management and animal cruelty classes.

In addition, Vaca can't own any animal for 10 years.
