Authorities say a Florida sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a bank robbery suspect who was parked outside a Pompano Beach strip mall.

A Broward County Sheriff's official says the man was shot north of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning after he was spotted in a gray sedan. Authorities said the suspect was in his 40s and had been sought by law enforcement agents in the community of Port St. Lucie.

A spokeswoman says a woman who was in the sedan is in custody and wasn't hurt. It wasn't immediately known whether the man fired shots at the deputy.

Authorities had no immediate details about the suspect's identity or the bank robbery.
