Pa. woman freed after sons' killings found dead
LANCASTER, Pa. – A Pennsylvania woman found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2004 killings of her two young sons has been found dead inside her crashed minivan in an Arizona canyon.
Thirty-five-year-old Meghan Lippiatt of Mount Joy in Lancaster County was found dead Saturday in Navajo County, a two-hour hike from the closest highway.
The Arizona Highway Patrol said she had been dead for about a week. Her death is being investigated as a suicide.
Lippiatt was found not guilty by reason of insanity after a 2007 nonjury trial for the slayings of 2-year-old Silas and 4-month-old Myles. The boys were drowned and suffocated.
Psychiatrists at her trial testified that Lippiatt said "demonic voices" urged her to kill her boys.
It wasn't immediately clear why she was in Arizona.
