Ohio Mother, Two Children Fatally Stabbed in Their Apartment

COLUMBUS, Ohio  -- A mother and her two children were found fatally stabbed in their apartment on Friday after family reported that she hadn't shown up for Thanksgiving or work.

Thomas Hendricks of Columbus said those killed were his daughter, 31-year-old Tia Hendricks, and the woman's children, 10-year-old Tahlia Hendricks and 2-year-old Tyron Hendricks Montgomery.

Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner said officers found the three victims Friday afternoon and a man still alive with stab wounds. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police said they are not looking for a suspect in the killings but wouldn't say whether the man was a suspect.

Tia Hendricks' aunt, Anita Hayes, said the injured man is her niece's live-in boyfriend and the boy's father. She said they had lived at the Columbus apartment since September and that her niece had last been heard from on Wednesday.

Hayes said Hendricks worked as a financial collector and recently took a second job at a Burlington Coat Factory store so her children could have a good Christmas.

At the complex, about a dozen people stood behind yellow police tape, some crying, as police investsigated.

"It just seems so unreal, you read about this stuff in the paper, but you don't expect it to happen in your own family," Hayes said.

Family went to the complex Friday morning after a coworker of Tia Hendricks called Hendricks' mother to say she hadn't shown up. When they knocked at her door and received no answer, a maintenance worker took them to a rental office and an employee called police.
