SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A New York man who cut off his ankle monitor before killing a woman and raping her 10-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
Prosecutors say 30-year-old David Renz was sentenced Wednesday in Syracuse.
Renz had been fitted with an ankle monitor while awaiting trial on the porn charges but cut it off before abducting the mother and daughter at gunpoint from a mall parking lot last March. He'll be sentenced in that case in May and is expected to get life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors say the 30-year pornography sentence runs consecutive to any state sentence.
In court papers, Renz's lawyer says he's endured a lifetime of pain and isolation because of a facial deformity.
