NC teen accused of using wood splitter in killing
HICKORY, N.C. – Authorities say a North Carolina teenager shot his roommate, then using a wood splitter on him before words were carved with a knife and written in pen on the man's body.
Catawba County Sheriff's Office Capt. Joel Fish said 19-year-old Michael Anderson has been charged with murder in the death of 36-year-old Stephen Starr. Fish says Anderson called 911 Monday and told dispatchers he had shot his roommate at their home near Hickory.
Authorities say Anderson used a wood splitter on Starr afterward but would not give details.
Fish would not say what was written on Starr's body.
Sheriff Coy Reid told the Hickory Daily Record that it was one of the "nastiest" crime scenes he'd ever seen.
Anderson is being held without bond, does not have a listed attorney and is scheduled for court on Wednesday.
