NEW YORK – The New York Police Department says it's made an arrest in a suspicious fire that critically injured two police officers.
Police said that 16-year-old Marcell Dockery was arrested Monday on charges of assault, arson and reckless endangerment. Authorities say he lives in the building and set fire to a mattress that had been discarded in a hallway. The name of his lawyer was not immediately available.
The officers were overcome by carbon monoxide and smoke Sunday afternoon and remain in critical condition. They were found unconscious in a hallway on the 13th floor of an apartment building.
Thirty-six-year-old Rosa Rodriguez is in Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, and 38-year-old Dennis Guerra was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
