ANTIOCH, Calif. – A homeless man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 7-year-old San Francisco Bay Area girl.
The Contra Costa Times reports (http://bit.ly/1cvhkQb) a public defender for 43-year-old David Allen Douglas said during an arraignment hearing Wednesday that his client denies all the allegations.
Police allege Douglas followed the girl's mother home from an Antioch Walmart store Jan. 3 and took the girl as the mother unloaded groceries from her vehicle.
The abduction led to an Amber Alert. Police say they rescued the girl about four hours later after finding Douglas near the Antioch marina.
Police have credited an employee of a Target store where Douglas was spotted earlier with helping lead them to him.
