LOS ANGELES – The man who bought the rifles used in the San Bernardino attack is asking that his trial be moved from July to March 2017.
In a Friday filing in federal court, attorneys for Enrique Marquez Jr. say there's too much evidence involved to make a July trial practical or fair to their client.
They say the government's evidence includes more than 8,500 documents and 500 hours of audio interviews of witnesses. They say the case is so unusual and complex that it unreasonable to expect adequate preparation by July.
They're asking the trial be set for March 21.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office declined to comment.
Marquez has pleaded not guilty to conspiring with one of the San Bernardino shooters and to providing material support to terrorists.
