Grand jury indicts Ore mom whose son fell off roof
MEDFORD, Ore. – A grand jury has indicted the mother of a 3-year-old Oregon boy who fell off a building and into the arms of a neighbor on charges of criminal mistreatment.
The Mail Tribune newspaper reports (http://is.gd/vcHJCl) that 22-year-old Amelia Smith will be arraigned on the felony charges within two weeks.
The boy fell July 1 after hanging onto a small lip around the edge of the roof where his family lived in an apartment.
He was uninjured after landing into the arms of a 21-year-old neighbor who had told the boy to let go because she knew he didn't have the strength to pull himself back onto the roof.
Hours before Tuesday's indictment on felony charges, Smith pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of reckless endangering and endangering a minor.
