A retired New York radio personality is charged in a sting operation with trying to transport a 7-year-old girl to the U.S. Virgin Islands for sex.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 77-year-old David Herman, of both Airmont, N.Y., and St. Croix (kroy), was arrested Thursday at the St. Croix airport, where they say he expected to meet the girl and her mother.

Prosecutors say he thought he'd been corresponding online with a woman about her child but was actually talking to an undercover officer from Bergen County in New Jersey.

They confirm he worked at FM radio station WNEW, where he was a pioneering rock 'n' roll disc jockey.

Herman will appear Friday in court St. Croix. Prosecutors say they didn't know whether he had a lawyer. No phone listing was found for him in Airmont.
