A 9-year-old boy was killed Thursday after he was struck by a bus at Disney World, MyFoxOrlando.com reported.
The boy was riding his bike with an 11-year-old female friend near the park's Fort Wilderness Resort shortly before 2 p.m when he was hit by the Disney-operated bus carrying 28 people, Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes told Fox News. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The children and the bus were headed in the same direction when the boy was hit. There was a sidewalk but no curb, and investigators were working to determine exactly where the bus hit the boy. He was pulled under the right rear tire, Montes said.
Montes said there was no evidence the bus driver was impaired or driving wrecklessly, and she did not expect criminal charges.
"We believe it's a traffic crash with a fatality," Montes said.
The boy was not immediately identified, but authorities said he was from Florida.
"We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the boy's family and loved ones for their loss," Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said in a statement. "We are currently providing the necessary resources and care to help the family with this situation."
None of the 28 people on the bus were hurt.
This is the third bus-related incident at Disney in six months.
